Kaya Black takes it "Easy" on latest Release.

Kaya Black continues his string of successful releases with his new single, a smooth reggae cover of The Commodores hit song “Easy.” The “Burn From You” singer began making his mark by releasing original songs that blend Reggae, Pop and Rock. “Easy” came as a pleasant surprise to fans, but little did they know it was something that Kaya’s creative mind had been thinking about for some time.

While promoting his previous single “Missing You,” Kaya released press photos and fans began comparing him to Lionel Richie and suggested that he cover a Lionel Richie or a Commodores song. Ironically, Kaya always felt a connection to “Easy” and thought a reggae version would sound great. However, he never acted on the genius idea until the fans suggested it. But, once it was suggested that he cover one of Lionel’s hits, the song selection was…easy!

Listen to "Easy" on Apple Music

Kaya stays true to Lionel Richie’s lyrics but adds his own spin on the delivery of the vocals. His tone is very intimate and sounds somewhat vulnerable. It’s as if Kaya wrote the lyrics himself. About the song Kaya says, “I felt as if I were listening to someone who experienced heartbreak but is trying his best to put on a brave face to portray that he’s “Ok” and moving on. “Easy” has been covered over 46 times but I’ve never heard it sung like this.” Kaya compliments his delivery with a smooth riddim produced by Multi-Platinum producer and Grammy winner J-Vibe.

J-Vibe has also provided riddims for acts like Keyshia Cole, Collie Buddz, J. Boog and more. The song also features a stellar guitar solo by Grammy-nominated producer Tyler Cain. The star-studded production is complimented by Kaya’s vocals.

“Easy” was released on October 15th. It premiered at #62 on the iTunes Reggae Chart shortly after being released and is expected to continue climbing the charts. “Easy” is the follow up to “Missing You,” and “Burn From You,” which all showcase Kaya’s love for multiple genres of music.

Pre-save Last Christmas

Kaya will also be releasing a Reggae Cover of “Last Christmas” which is also produced by Tyler Cain and mixed by the legendary Errol Brown. The song will be released on November 5th, and is expected to be a Christmas staple going forward.

Kaya’s reggae roots began with his father Johnnie Black, a well-respected Jamaican photographer known for capturing iconic photographs of Reggae legends. It was Kaya’s father that pushed him into pursuing Reggae music as a career option. Johnnie was very involved in the early days of Reggae and was one of Bob Marley’s photographers. Marley’s album Kaya is also where Kaya got his birth name from, so it’s evident that his reggae roots are very deep.

Kaya’s influences range from Bob Marley and the Wailers to Barrington Levy to Matchbox Twenty and John Mayer, and the range of musical diversity can be heard in his artistic expression. If you are in the mood for some plain old good Reggae music do yourself a favor and tune into Kaya Black’s music. I promise you will not be disappointed
